So you're on a mission to reformat to Windows 8 or 8.1 and you reveive an error 0xd83fc0c0 "we couldnt create a new partition". Well hitting "New" doesn't respond after a few tries and you think your HDD (Hard Disk Drive) or SSD (Solid State Drive) is doomed? Try this trick with Windows 8 or 8.1 the next time you get into this issue.

1. Reboot your PC and go into Windows setup. (F12)


2. Select "Repair" at the bottom left


3. Select "Advanced Options"


4. Select Command Prompt"


5. Note: Below are commands be sure to press "Enter" on your keyboard, rather then typing it.


6. Type the following commands:

       - start diskpart  [Enter]

       - list disk [Enter] *Look close for the drive number you are working with.

       - select disk [Enter] *add drive number here (i.e. select disc 0)    

       - clean [Enter]

       - create partition primary [Enter]

       - active [Enter]

       - format fs=ntfs quick [Enter]

       - assign [Enter]

       - exit [Enter]

       - exit [Enter]

That's it! Carry on with your install!
