So you're on a mission to reformat to Windows 8 or 8.1 and you reveive an error 0xd83fc0c0 "we couldnt create a new partition". Well hitting "New" doesn't respond after a few tries and you think your HDD (Hard Disk Drive) or SSD (Solid State Drive) is doomed? Try this trick with Windows 8 or 8.1 the next time you get into this issue.
- Reboot your PC and go into Windows setup. (F12)
- Select "Repair" at the bottom left
- Select "Advanced Options"
- Select Command Prompt"
- Note: Below are commands be sure to press "Enter" on your keyboard, rather then typing it.
- Type the following commands:
- start diskpart [Enter]
- list disk [Enter] *Look close for the drive number you are working with.
- select disk [Enter] *add drive number here (i.e. select disc 0)
- clean [Enter]
- create partition primary [Enter]
- active [Enter]
- format fs=ntfs quick [Enter]
- assign [Enter]
- exit [Enter]
- exit [Enter]
That's it! Carry on with your install!
