A Multi-platform open source Binary Analysis and Reverse engineering Framework.

The analysis of binary code is a crucial activity in many areas of the computer sciences and software engineering disciplines ranging from software security and program analysis to reverse engineering.

Manual binary analysis is a difficult and time-consuming task and there are software tools that seek to automate or assist human analysts. However, most of these tools have several technical and commercial restrictions that limit access and use by a large portion of the academic and practitioner communities.

BARF is an open source binary analysis framework that aims to support a wide range of binary code analysis tasks that are common in the information security discipline. It is a scriptable platform that supports instruction lifting from multiple architectures, binary translation to an intermediate representation, an extensible framework for code analysis plugins and inter operation with external tools such as debuggers, SMT solvers and instrumentation tools. The framework is designed primarily for human-assisted analysis but it can be fully automated.

The BARF project includes BARF and related tools and packages. So far the project is composed of the following items:

BARF : A multiplatform open source Binary Analysis and Reverse engineering Framework
PyAsmJIT : A JIT for the Intel x86_64 and ARM architecture.

Tools built upon BARF:

BARFgadgets : Lets you search, classify and verify ROP gadgets inside a binary program.
BARFcfg : Lets you recover the control-flow graph of the functions of a binary program.
BARFcg : Lets you recover the call graph of the functions of a binary program.

BARF

BARF is a Python package for binary analysis and reverse engineering. It can:

Load binary programs in different formats (ELF, PE, etc),
It supports the Intel x86 architecture for 32 and 64 bits,
It supports the ARM architecture for 32 bits,
It operates on an intermediate language (REIL) thus all analysis algorithm are architecture-agnostic,
It has integration with Z3 and CVC4 SMT solvers which means that you can express fragments of code as formulae and check restrictions on them.
It is currently under development.

Installation

BARF depends on the following SMT solvers:

Z3 : A high-performance theorem prover being developed at Microsoft Research.
CVC4 : An efficient open-source automatic theorem prover for satisfiability modulo theories (SMT) problems.

The following command installs BARF on your system:

$ sudo python setup.py install

You can also install it locally:

$ sudo python setup.py install --user

Notes

Only one SMT solver is needed in order to work. You may choose between Z3 and CVC4 or install both. You can use the barf-install-solver.sh script which downloads and install both solver.
To run some tests you need to install PyAsmJIT first.

Movable Micro Platform Floats on a Sea of Droplets

The popularity of small consumer electronics and ever growing rise of their shipments has brought the need of bringing ever-evolving advancement in the technologies. The production of electronic chips and other devices rely on the microelectronic mechanical systems or commonly referred as MEMs which are essentially are tiny machines which help in enhancing the abilities of those electronic devices.

A team of researchers at MIT had come up with an innovative way of ensuring that the movable part of the machine doesn’t get in touch with each other. This will ensure the major source of wear, tear and eventually failing of the electronic device. In this new invention a layer of liquid droplets were used to support a tiny yet movable platform which helps floating the droplets at top of it.

The movement of the platform can easily be controlled effectively and it can also be utilized to alter the dimensions of the droplets by raising, lowering as well as tilting the platform. Their finding has been published in Applied Physics Letters and it has been coauthored by MIT team which includes Daniel Preston along with six others.

How this new system works? 

In this system the droplets way of interacting with the below them is altered as per the need of the hour and it is governed by a scientific a characteristic which is called contact angle. The contact angle specifically helps in measuring how steep the edge of the droplet when it meets with the surface. The usage of droplets will help in tuning across a whole range of the device by applying variable voltage to the surface.

The research team behind this invention is filled with graduate students from MIT namely Ariel Anders and Yangying Zhu and an undergraduate student by the name DingRan Dai. Their work was extensively supported by the Office of Naval Research and the National Science Foundation.

How this droplet platform was created? 

Researchers came with a smart solution to maintain the position of droplets by allowing them to slide around through the treating the underside of the floating platform. Researchers have created the floating surface with small circles of hydrophilic material. But researchers have been able to get the droplets in their place by securely pinning it to the water attracting surface. This ultimately helps in keeping the platform securely.
During the initial testing of this device researchers found that they were able to keep the droplets in the vertical positioning up to the level of 10 microns.

The future application of the droplets

In practical this approach will help in offering simple and cost effective solution to the manufacturers which is great benefit over the existing techniques present in the industry. A major vulnerability has been found in the in-flight entertainment system which can be worked upon by the hackers to take control over the aircraft. The vulnerable in-flight entertainment systems were mainly found in some of the major airlines which include Virgin, Emirates and Qatar. The security hole has been effectively found in the Panasonics branded Avionics which is a in-flight system used in planes across 13 major airlines in the world. This would result in not just taking cover the flight but it will result in leaking passengers’ information. However Panasonic has simply denied any possibility of inflicting damage or causing safety alerts with its in-flight systems.

A reputed researcher sheds light on the vulnerability

A researcher named Ruben Santamarta stated that the vulnerability found in the in-flight entertainment system is a grave concern for the safety of craft and the passengers alike. He further elaborated that hijacking the in-flight system which lends the ability to the hackers to make changes in the critical information related to the altitude and location.

They can even control the cabin lightening and along with possibility of hacking into the announcement system. Option 1:Shows the wireless networks available to the system. If interface name is given, only the networks on the given interface will be listed. Otherwise, all networks visible to the system will be listed.

Option 2: Shows a list of wireless profiles configured on the system.

Option 3: Shows the allowed and blocked wireless network list.

Option 4: Shows a list of all the wireless LAN interfaces on the system.

Option 5: Generates a detailed report about each wireless access point profile on the system. Group Policy Profiles are read only. User Profiles are readable and writeable, and the preference order can be changed.

Option 6: Dumps the cleartext passwords of every wireless profiles on the system. Make sure to generate the profile file (by selecting option 2) before running this option. Always run this as an administrator user to see the cleartext password. User needs to provide individual wireless name by reading the profile names(option 7).

Sendo assim, se você tem um PC fraco demais para rodar o Windows tradicional, mas não acha que o Android puro possa ser uma boa alternativa para o dia a dia, o Remix OS deve se encaixar muito bem nas suas necessidades.

Interface
A interface do Remix OS é bem simples e combina elementos visuais comuns em vários outros sistemas operacionais criados para desktop. Você tem um “Menu Iniciar”, no canto inferior esquerdo da tela, onde é possível ter acesso à sua lista de apps, e também possui uma barra de tarefas no fundo, na qual são organizados os ícones de todas as janelas abertas.

Ah! Todos os apps que você executa no Remix OS podem ser usados em janelas individuais flutuantes na tela, da mesma forma que você sempre fez no Windows. Há inclusive botões para minimizar, maximizar e fechar. A única coisa que falta é o redimensionamento automático quando você as arrasta para os lados do monitor. Contudo, nessa última atualização, um novo comando foi incluído, que ajusta as janelas automaticamente para o melhor formato possível.

Programas pré-instalados
O Remix OS original, embarcado nos computadores da Jide, é mais completo e conta com mais refinamento visual e liberdade de operar as janelas do que nesta versão para PCs. Essa diferença se mostra presente também nos apps pré-instalados.

Nessa versão para PCs, você só recebe um navegador, uma calculadora, um app de câmera, relógio, contatos, gerenciador de arquivos e de configurações. Há também outros itens para personalizar o sistema, mas tenha em mente que você terá que baixar e instalar a Google Play manualmente para conseguir outros apps.

Instalação

Rodar o Remix OS em um PC ou Mac não é uma coisa complicada, mas é bastante demorada. Contudo, se você tiver tempo e paciência, não deve acontecer nenhum tipo de problema. Confira os passos:

1. Antes de qualquer coisa, você deve baixar o arquivo ZIP do SO em seu computador Windows através dos botões de “Baixar”, no início e no fim deste texto.

2. Extraia todo o pacote em uma pasta

3. Encontre um pendrive vazio com pelo menos 8 GB de espaço e conecte ao PC

4. Clique duas vezes no item “Remix OS USB Tool”

5. Selecione seu pendrive na lista de discos e clique em “Browse” para adicionar o arquivo ISO presente na mesma pasta do Remix OS USB Tool.

6. Com tudo adicionado, clique em OK e aguarde o processamento.

Esse procedimento pode parecer bem rápido no início, mas, quando chega perto do fim, pode ficar por muitos minutos parado, quase como se estivesse travado. Em nosso caso, ele demorou cerca de meia hora para concluir esse passo. Seja paciente.



Agora, para iniciar o Remix OS em um PC ou Mac, conecte o pendrive à entrada USB, reinicie o dispositivo e, antes do SO da máquina aparecer, aperte F1 (ou F2 ou Delete) para acessar o setup e mudar a sequência de boot do dispositivo. Certifique-se de que o pendrive em questão está selecionado para iniciar antes dos outros componentes. Para acessar o setup no Mac, tecle Comand durante a inicialização.

Quando seu computador finalmente iniciar pelo pendrive, você verá uma tela perguntando em que modo você deseja usar o Remix OS. Escolha “Guest Mode” para não manter nenhum arquivo depois de finalizar a sessão ou “Resident Mode” para criar uma partição e manter os registros do novo SO ali. Ainda não é possível instalar o Remix OS definitivamente na máquina.

A partir desse ponto, o computador vai realizar vários procedimentos automáticos, e você não precisa fazer nada. Contudo, essa parte também é bem demorada. Em nossa situação, levou mais meia hora para ser concluída.

The Skybuds is made up entirely plastic type material but it still looks quite simple shiny and smooth in hands and it does not fall of easily. The slim and sleek design is an plus point for this earbuds which is comfortable while wearing and its design prevents it from falling of quickly.
